Michelle Steven is an artist living and working in Mudgee, NSW. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at College of Fine Art, UNSW. She then worked creatively in product development while continuing to practise and exhibit her art.
Michelle moved to Mudgee 13 years ago and has since worked in the local arts community through exhibitions, commissions, art lessons and hosting creative workshops. She has been a finalist in a number art prizes regionally and interstate including twice finalist in the Mudgee Portrait Prize and most recently winning the Peabody Wilpinjong Prize for hanging art at Art Unlimited for the second consecutive time.
Trained in oil painting Michelle currently works with charcoal. Her work explores memories and musings attached to time, place and the tangible mostly through the still life genre and sometimes landscape. She is intrigued by light, shadow, pattern, texture and reflections.
