Artist Statement
My work explores the quiet intimacy between natural forms and handmade objects, and their connection to memory, time and place.
Created in mixed media—ink, charcoal, paint on wood panel—these pieces centre on flowers, blossoms and native leaves, foraged or gifted, and the connection I feel to them. Then arranged in ceramic vessels I have made or in vintage bottles I have collected over time. Each element carries its own history: the fragility of cut flora, the permanence of fired clay, the subtle wear of aged glass.
Working on wood panel allows the surface to hold both texture and memory. The grain becomes part of the composition, grounding the organic forms in something enduring. Ink provides fluidity and gesture, echoing the delicacy of petals and leaves, while charcoal introduces weight, shadow, and a sense of quiet reflection. My process is contemplative and intimate, layering charcoal in a push/pull dynamic to reveal inky colours and textures. The act of creating becomes a way of reclaiming stillness and presence in a world that demands constant attention.
Semi abstract yet representational, I invite the viewer to slow down, to notice subtle textures and tonal shifts, and to reflect on the delicate balance between the cultivated and the wild, the crafted and the found. In essence, my practice is a meditation on holding—holding form, holding time, holding beauty just long enough to truly see it.
